Restore session without inputing session id

After I left(closed) IE and access the same page, for example access "http://abc/pls/apex/f?p=1000:1", the site redirect me to the login page. This must annoyed users much.
1) In a short period, if I input the url with session id, then I can reuse the same session. So how should I restore the session without directing me to the login page: I just input "http://abc/pls/apex/f?p=1000:1" instead of ""http://abc/pls/apex/f?p=1000:1:SESSION_ID" and I can access to the same page under the same session.
2) If the session is expired, I also want I can login the server without input user name and password by using cookie. How should I implement one method to create a new session without prompting user to login page?

Vic,
For authenticated applications, if there is no session ID in the URL, the user must login again.
If the session is expired ...
They go away after 24 hours, but that's not really the same as expiring. You can invalidate your application's session cookie after a period of user inactivity if you want to and sometimes this is called session expiration but I don't think it helps with your main problem.
I also want I can login the server ...
There is no logging into any server that happens. A user submits a login page in your application and then logs in to your application. The steps in your application's authentication scheme determine most of the details of how that happens.

  • Is there a way to save a restored session (without opening it) to bookmarks?

    I kinda get carried way with opening tabs, like I'll have 50-200 open at any time. And you can imagine what it's like when Firefox crashes and you attempt to restore a crashed session - all the tabs reopen at the same time.
    Is there any way to save a crashed session's tabs/windows to bookmarks directly from the restore session list? This would be so useful... sometimes I just want to go to a couple places and then close Firefox, worrying about the crashed session later, and without having to open every single tab in it at once.

    It would be very practical if we could choose to save the crashed session as bookmarks into a date-stamped bookmark folder instead of restoring, and even an option to "copy to clipboard" just like "CopyAllurls" does (firefox add-on) - with title and urls, grouped by domain, for example. When a 200+ tabs session crashes, what we need is mostly to not loose track of what we worked with, but not strictly loading them all in one go at startup. Furthermore, whenever we really do load them all, then it would be smarter if Firefox loaded just a certain (configurable figure?) number of tabs, then waits for them to load, and fill in with the next tabs as the currently loading tabs finish. It should not attempt to load all 200+ simultaneously, as that creates other problems. Will look for any existing feature requests about this and chime in there. If anyone has a direct link to relevant feature requests, please post here. Thanks.

  • FFresFF crashing and restore session has been crashing without warning or notice for the past two weeks every other day, losing my restore session open windows

    several times in the past 2 weeks, i come back to my computer to find FF has closed. there are no alerts or notices of a crash. when i use restore session, only 3 windows are listed as "recently closed", when I have 20 or so open. i believe there have been 2 updates in that period. i have to manually go through 'all history" to find my missing windows!

    every time I have a problem with FF recently, someone suggests this. I try it and learn nothing.

  • Disabling Restore Session Box

    I want to disable the "restore session" box in Firefox 4. I downloaded the session manager but there is no functional setting for this. I went to the about:home site & changed setting there, still to no avail. How can I disable this feature?

    You can do it with Javascript.
    This is to the head of page.
    <script>
    function func() {
       if (document.form1.textbox1.value=="something") {
          document.form1.textbox2.disabled=true;
    </script>...and its in the body part.
    <form action="..."  name="form1">
    <input type="text" name="textbox1" onclick="func()"/>
    <input type="text" name="textbox2"/>
    <input type="text" name="textbox3"/>
    ...I hope this helps.

  • The restore session has stopped working. It tries to load, but then gives an error message that the script is not working and will not actually show the previous tabs I had open.

    I count on using the Firefox restore session feature. But it's stopped working. For the past couple of days, it hasn't worked a single time. (I haven't changed anything on my PC.) It just suddenly stopped working.
    Now it gives me an error message that the script has stopped working. It gives me a couple of options. I'm not sure of the exact wording, but one option is to stop the script and the other is to keep trying. But the keep trying never works.
    I have to stop the script, hence, the list with my previous tabs never comes up.

    Which file is mentioned as the cause of that script error?<br />
    Is that a file with a chrome protocol?

  • Usually after Firefox crashes I can restore session but sometimes it won't let me. Is there a way to restore a session once automatic option goes away?

    1. Firefox crashes and an error message appears.
    2. I open Firefox again.
    3. Automatically Firefox asks if I want to restore the last session or start a new session.
    4. Usually it works to restore a session, but at random times, it does not and the following happens.
    5. I move the mouse toward the restore session button but don't quite get there when my usual home page opens.
    Question: once this happens is there a way to get my old session back, like a place where you can manually request Firefox restart the last session?

    did not have that extension installed, but did it now and can't find anything there that would concern tab groups. (also referred to as Panorama). This session manager seems to provide a lot of stuff that the browser is supposed to do anyhoo, but with more options of configuration. Hope extension and browser won't cause a mess while attempting to do both the same thing.
    Yes, I know that Bookmark all tabs is still available via right click - after a google-search told me so. My feedback was - why remove functionality from the menu? It's really not overloaded - and I'd expect a menu listing me the complete set of functions a software allows me to do, unless it busts the menu. So I was just asking myself - how come it has been removed? Makes no sense to me.
    Thanks for your reply.

    Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.<br />
    Use "File > Exit" or "Firefox > Exit" if you want to restore multiple windows.<br />
    You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.<br />
    There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.
    Another possibility is to use:
    * [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Menu_differences Firefox (Tools) > Options] > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

  • When the first version of the Restore Session tab was implemented in an update for Firefox?

    ''Duplicate post, continue here - [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/806369]''
    Essentially, I'm trying to find out how many sessions I can restore since, after the creation of this feature, I typically allowed the "Restore Session" Tab to remain in the window, allowing me to at least access the last few sessions later on when I'm much less busy. Unfortunately, I let it get a bit out of hand. Is there any way for me to find out how many sessions I have saved in this way by searching through files or folders affiliated with this browser? Even if the history clears about every 290 something days, are these sessions and the information they require stored in such a way that the clearing of history would not create a problem if I want to restore very old sessions that were left in this manner? (I recently changed it to allow all of my history to be saved, rather than just limiting the number of days, but I fear I might have taken this action too late. And I'm going to download a "Session Manager" add-on, to help me with this in the future, but, I'm still worried about these past sessions.) Any help or information would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.

    You can only manage multiple sessions with an extension like Session Manager (extends the build-in session restore) or Tab Mix Plus (has its own implementation of session restore, so can be less reliable if Firefox doesn't close properly). The basic build-in Firefox session restore only handles the previous session. Firefox 4 has a button on the about:home page and a menu entry (History > Restore Previous Session), but Firefox 3 doesn't have that feature. Session Restore stores a list of currently open tabs, so the amount of history that you keep shouldn't matter.

  • For example when trying to order like on amazon examples disappear and I have to go back to histor to bring picture back . have to restore sessions by closing

    Trying to view products eg on Amazon the info keeps disapearing and I have to go to history to bring back! have to restore sessions a lot!

    What does this have to do with Thunderbird email client?
    It sounds like you are talking about an Internet browser like Firefox.

  • How to use restore session in firefox 4?

    When I close sessions, the restore session does not respond when I reopen firefox and cannot thus restore previous sessions.

    Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.<br />

  • "Restore Session" in Firefox 2.x problem

    We are using custom authorization. All works fine...when user logout or close its browser, his session cannot be reused.
    Problem is with FF 2.02.
    If any instance of FF has been violate killed (from process explorer or PC has been rebooted), on first next start, FF is able to restore all sessions.
    The problem is that in our case, it can restore session on Apex 2.2 authenticated pages also!!
    Any help to ensure that this behavior cannot occur in a case of subnormal termination of Firefox browser?
    Apex 2.2.0.2 , Oracle 10.2.0.2
    P.S
    IE 6 or 7 is working OK!
    THX!

    Maybe you are right...but...
    <br>
    I tried the same test with my internet banking (cannot give you a link because it is secured with token), the same problem is somehow solved!
    <br>
    This mean that FF "restore session" cannot reuse previous session in any way. So it seems that this technology (it is not apex but some jsp version) can handle with this really big security issue.
    <br>
    Please understand that site like ours would like to secure our Internet clients who will make allocation, registratatio or even sell the stocks!
    <br>
    So could anyone help me to implement such a feature or point me to where to look for the solution.
    <br>
    THX
    <br>
    P.S.
    <br>
    Article (forum thread) is missing the point. With word you are not going to pay the bills or sell the stocks or do any manipulation with sensitive data through Internet!
    <br>
    <b>browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash</b> is on client side and it is not the default option. So we cannot place that kind of security in any way.

  • 5.0.1 Firefox, application froze then crashed. Restarted it, but no 'restore session' and i've lost all my tabs. Help please?!?!

    Can anyone help please?
    5.0.1 Firefox, application froze then crashed. Restarted it, but no 'restore session' and i've lost all my tabs. Help please?!?!
    Done config:restoresession, and nothing.

    There shouldn't be any numbered sessionstore-##.js in the Firefox Profile Folder
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
    The presence of such files usually indicates that that was a problem with accessing the main sessionstore.js file that prevented Firefox from renaming the temp file with the number.<br />
    In this case you may be lucky that the file with the highest number may have that session.<br />
    You can try to rename the file sessionstore-3.js to sessionstore.js to see if that brings back the lost tabs.
    If you use the Time Machine then you can try to restore a copy of sessionstore.js from around the time that you lost that session.

  • Firefox just updated to 5.0.1 when it opens it opens two tabs, one a restore session tab and the other Firefox home tab. Nothing appears in the restore tab and everything freezes. Only way to get out is to ctrl, alt, del.

    After updating to Firefox 5.0.1 and trying to open Firefox, it opens two tabs. One is the restore session tab and the other is the Firefox home tab. Nothing opens in the session restore tab and once the Firefox home tab loads the browser screen freezes with no crash ID's listed. The only way to get out is thru the task manager and ending the process. Firefox worked fine before updating.

    Hi glivezey,
    Try typing ''about:home'' into the address bar. Is that the page you are looking for? If so, go to ''Tools > Options > General'' and save it as your homepage. If that home page doesn't show up the next time you start Firefox, you should look at [[Preferences are not saved]].
    Hopefully this helps!
