Please can anyone help me with scanning?

Question

I just have the Epson scan and preview that came with Tiger but I can't understand the instructions. I want to scan an image ( which I have done ) and then move the image onto a new position on a card, which I can't do !
When I have the scan open and then have preview open I do not have tools at the top of the window only onscan. Also I keep losing the scanner and have to unplug and then replug it to make it work. Please help. Thank you, Teresa .

Hello Teresa,
Very difficult to answer your questions but I will offer several ideas and some tips to try and get this going.
First...it may help to know what type of scanner you are using.
Second....What are you trying to scan
Third....What will you do with the scan.
Fourth......What application will you use to print.....It sounds as though you are trying to add a pix to a document or something along that line.
Now I will offer some tips...I am going to assume you are trying to scan a picture for use
1. - In the preview window, you don't have any options because the preview is shopwing you what will scan..... What the computer sees. I believe Epson has the option to crop only part of the picture at this point.
2. - After you preview, select the area you want to scan..... This is done by moving the cursor over part of the picture. This will change the cursor to what looks like a PLUS sign.
3. - Use the plus sign by clicking in the top left of the area you want and drag to the bottom right.
4. - Once this is done.....you hit scan. After the scan....save as......several options here......but try giving the file a name and chose to save as a "tiff" or .jpg for lower quality.
5. - I like to save to the desktop for ease of finding in step number8.
6. - Open an application such as pagemaker, appleworks etc.
7. - Decide where the picture should go......
8. - Now hit place......and when a dialog box appears....select the picture name you scanned.
9. - This will place the picture in the document..
10. - There are several other methods of getting a pix into a document.....Such as after scanning the picture......hit copy.......Then go into the application and do a paste.
If you are trying to just print from the scan.....that is another thing almost entirely......PLease post back with a little more info and try to be specific.
