[MSI Z97 Xpower AC] What driver enables "Wi-Fi" from the module?

I'm having a strange problem with the Wi-Fi module that comes with the "MSI Z97 Xpower AC" motherboard.
Some background...
The module itself seems to be physically installed correctly.
I saw my "Windows 7 Ultimate 64" detect the bluetooth hardware.
I was able to install the "Intel BlueTooth Driver" package from my motherboard's driver page:
http://ca.msi.com/support/mb/Z97_XPOWER_AC.html#down-driver&Win7%2064
In my "Device Manager", it displays as "Intel Wireless Bluetooth" in the section called "Bluetooth Radios".
The problem is...
I can't seem to get any "Wi-Fi" functionality from the module.
In my "Device Manager", there is an item called "Network Controller" in the section called "Other Devices".
It has an exclamation mark over it, and in the properties it says: "The drivers for this device are not installed".
I suspected that the driver package called "Intel Wireless Display" might solve this problem.
But when I run it, it says: "This platform is nor compatible witgh Intel WiDi...Your wireless card is not compatible...Your wireless driver cannot find or load necessary components..".
I am really confused. Can anyone help?

Okay, another strange update.
So as I explained in my original post...no driver from the MSI website works for Wi-Fi.
Then I tried the special USB that came with my board, which contains drivers.
Using the autoplay, I had same result...bluetooth and network installed fine. But Wi-Fi still didn't get installed.
But I found a solution using a strange method...
I must explore the contents of the USB.
I must navigate to "\Network\Intel WLAN\WIFI\WIN7 PLUS\Win7Plus\Win64\Drivers\Win7"
Then I must double-click the "iProDifX.exe" located in the folder.
This will display an icon that animates for a couple of minutes.
Then the WiFi icon will appear in Windows taskbar and Wi-Fi starts to work!
What is strange is that I don't think this component is available through any of the drivers offered at the MSI website.
Also strange is that all the normal installers of the USB fail at installing this.

  • Help a newb connect his power supply cables to the MSI Z97 XPower AC?

    My Background
I am mostly a software kind of guy, and this is my first time building a computer. I saved lots of money, did lots of research, and picked my parts.
So far, I've installed my CPU & Fan to the Motherboard, and mounted them to the case.
Now it's time to install my Power Supply. Mounting it to the case is easy. The problem comes when I have to connect the cables. The manuals don't explain the purpose of these cables or provide "step-by-step" instructions.
I've been searching for over an hour, but can't get a clear idea of what I'm supposed to do. So I'm hoping someone can help me here.
    Hardware
    Motherboard: MSI Z97 XPOWER AC
    Power Supply: Seasonic X-1250
(EDIT: Forum does not let me link to the manuals, so for anyone who needs...please look online)
    Problem
On page 29 of my motherboard manual, it shows 4 different power connection slots (JPWR1, JPWR2, JPWR3, JPWR4). Unfortunately, it doesn't explain what goes in them.
On page 59 & 61 of my Power Supply manual, there is listing of all the key cables.
I think the "Mainboard 24/20 Pin" cable goes into the "JPWR1" slot.
    - So I am mostly confused about the other slots (JPWR2, JPWR3, JPWR4).
    - Also, it's confusing that there are two CPU cables called "CPU 8/4 Pin" & "CPU 8 Pin".
    Can anyone help me?

Hi guys, I have a follow-up question about my Seasonic PSU "PCI-E cables".
The way my PCI-E cables are designed is...
There's one end which is a single cable with a 12 hole connector...that goes into the PCI-E port on my power supply.
But then the other end splits out into two different cables, with each having a sort of 6/2 connector.
So regarding the end that splits out into two different cables...
Can each be used on different PCI-E devices?
Or is it the case that because my PSU has 3 PCI-E ports (and 3 of the cables I described)...that only 3 PCI-E devices can be powered?
all can be used however you plan to use them! all them connectors are tied to a single 104amp +12v Rail so they are getting power off a single Rail!
as long as what you plug them into do not exceed the Rail's ratings your fine (would take quite a few Graphics cards to get above that) (basically if it works it works) (would take like 2 R9-295x2's or 4 R9-290X's to get to that point)

  • [MSI Z97 Xpower AC] Question about "optimum performance" for single card...

This is my first PC build. And I need some clarification about something I read in my manual for the "MSI Z97 Xpower AC" motherboard.
    In my manual, it says:
    Quote
For a single PCIe x16 expansion card installation with optimum performance, using the PCI_E2 slot is recommended.
I would just like clarification...does this refer to all types of PCIe cards? Or just graphics cards?
For example, suppose I install my graphics card into the "PCI_E2 slot" to take advantage of "optimum performance".
Would the "optimum performance" go away if I installed another (non graphics card) device into another PCIe port?

Quote from: Chike on 27-March-15, 09:23:57
Although the table refer to CrossFire/SLI configuration you should still follow those rules when installing any kind of cards.
e.g. if you use more than one card you should not use slot PCIE_E2 at all.
Yes! This is what I was getting at...but I forgot to quote the following part (that confused me):
    Quote
The table below shows the correlation between the PCIe slots bandwidth and multiple graphics cards.
It talked about "multiple graphic cards", so I wondered whether the rules still applied if the other PCIe device was something else.
So, yes, I will take your suggestion to follow the rules...regardless of what type of device.
And, yes, like Nichrome & yourself have stated, I will consider the speed of the device & prioritize graphics card.
    Thanks alot guys!

  • [MSI Z97 Xpower AC] Confusion about about BIOS updating...

So I am a newb who has just finished his first build, using the "MSI Z97 Xpower AC" motherboard (purchased last month).
The first thing I want to do is update the BIOS.
But I am a little confused about how I should proceed.
In the manual, it describes the "M-Flash" method for updating BIOS.
But as I was reading reviews of this motherboard, there was some talk about the manual being "out-dated" in regards to BIOS update instructions. Some people suggested using some "forum method" for updating. I also see this topic which provides an alternative method for updating the BIOS:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=172772.0
So how do you think I should proceed with updating the BIOS?
Really, what is the safest method?

    Quote from: JLio01 on 31-March-15, 07:54:03
Forum tool is safer, M-Flash is easier. (my pov..)
I agree with that. Although for this motherboard (any with Dual BIOS), it should not matter whether it's safer or not, as you can always restore bricked BIOS by using secondary one
As you are using very first version of BIOS (v1.0) you can either use >>This One<< for MFlash which is latest official available v1.7 from MSI's product website OR for latest official/BETA BIOS to be used with Forum flash tool, you have to ask Svet to prepare a file for you (simply ask for it on current topic)
But the real question is: do you have any issues with your system that BIOS will fix it?? Because if your reason to flash is "I want latest", then forgive me, but that's the worst "reason" you might ever have.

  • What one should expect more from the unit

In fact after I had bought my DR8, I browsed the forum to see the most typical failures encountered by the users. I checked all the problem modes on my new DR8 to see it doing with no problem. What I could conclude from what I've read is that the problems' origin lies in the firmware flashing version and process. That made me real curios, why somebody who just have bought the unit would go and flash it? What one should expect more from the unit, except the risk to ruin it as it seems the most of the results are here...
Plse do not confuse me with an MSI marketing agent
I'm just happy to have fully functional nice drive as it says in the product spec

What you say is more or less what an update in general is supposed to do.
What makes me real curious is - when a product does what the product spec says, why one should risk and flash/update/whatever... to get more for the money? I don't think so.
Reading the forum problem posts I conclude the most of the problems are caused by that kind of "innovative" seeking of updates...

I just connected my wife's Mac Mini running OS 10.6.8 to an IG 32' monitor. What resolution should I select from the menu in order to provide maximum screen appearance? My wife has AMD and a visual acuity of 20/400 with central scotonata.

In System Preferences:Displays you have an option to show
Displays Prefs in the title bar above the screen - where she can

A 2008 Mac won't have originally shipped with Lion. You need to install 10.6.8 on the computer, log into the Mac App Store with the Apple ID you used to purchase Mountain Lion, click on the Purchases tab, and download it.

  • Windows Easy Transfer (WET) Issues with External Hard Drive - "Can't read from the source file or disk"

I work for Office Depot, in the tech department. Basically, one of our associates was supposed to do a data backup, and re-install Windows 7, then transfer the files back. He used Windows Easy Transfer and compacted everything into a 163 GB file.
Now comes the hard part. When we try to put it back on his computer ((drag-and-drop to the desktop) which has been wiped back to factory settings using the recovery partition), it stops at 79.5 GB remaining (you know how it doesn't give you a % of completion,
it just shows how many GB are remaining) and then says "Can't read from the source file or disk" and gives you an option to try again, or cancel. It gets hung up on the same point each time.
Normally, this wouldn't be a huge issue, but the contents on the drive are his wife's architect blueprints and interior design stuff, along with wedding photos, etc, which are the only copies they have. On top of those, they have court documents and other
important files that we are unable to access now.
I wasn't involved with this transfer, so I'm trying to clean up the mess as best I can. I remembered that the customer's wife was Russian, and had some files typed with a Russian keyboard, so on and so forth. I wonder if that's the issue? If not, I really
have no idea how to manually extract things from a ".mig" file, or how to diagnose what area is potentially corrupted.
In light of this situation, we tried using "Recuva" to recover the files post-wipe, but everything was corrupted or unable to be opened, and it also extracted and recovered all of the "useless" photos, such as the skype logos, up and
down arrows for browsers, etc (it was 160,000+ photos).
Trying to avoid a potential lawsuit, unhappy customer, and costing the company lots of money to see if professionals can get into this external hard drive.
    Other relevant information:
We used a Toshiba 500 GB (465 GB) external hard drive.
Customer's computer is an HP Pavilion P6000 Series (Model No. p6520y) running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1.
Any other information that is needed can be provided, thanks in advance, and hopefully we can find a solution to this issue quickly!
    -John

I think there's a lack of understanding somewhere.
"If you even can't start the process, please unplug it from your new PC. Then head back to your new computer and plug
the external drive back in to your new computer. "
Unplug from new, head back to new, plug it back in? That doesn't make much sense! Haha.
I knew what you meant though, somewhat. When I search through the drives after clicking yes (Has windows easy transfer
already saved your files blah blah blah) I click on the transfer file and it says "Windows Easy Transfer could not open the file".
Rather than drag-and-drop the file to the desktop, I now tried to double-click on the file itself while it was plugged
into the computer. It opened, and it started transferring until it was about 70% completed, and then an error popped up saying "WET can't open the easy transfer file, make sure your USB device is plugged in or check your internet connection".
I checked, and the USB hard drive's light wasn't on. Now, I unplug it and plug it back in, and the light comes back on,
so I click Retry, and it resets the bar back to nothing and says "Transfer time: 1 minute".
Rather than continue trying, I clicked "Cancel" instead of Retry, and it says "Your transfer did not complete successfully."
It says to click "view report" for more information, but there's no "view report button".
At the moment, I am scanning the External Drive for bad sectors using the check disk tool in properties. It's frozen
    at "0 USN bytes processed".

  • What is an ideal workflow, from the start to end?

With a great deal of interest, I have read many threads as this is mostly new for me. I never owned a camcorder in my life. So, please bear with me about a couple of questions.
So that I would like to minimize trial and error, perhaps a little deep learning curve. I am hesitate to mention that I am Deaf as it has nothing to do the whole issue. But I am having trouble understanding the general concept related specifically to frame rate. Not to mention that I use ASL (American Sign Language) as my native language, and English is my second language.
I have a Canon VIXIA HF S21, a HD camcorder, which records at least four various frame rates: PF24, 60i, PF30 or 24F @ 24 Mbps. My camcorder is a HD CMOS and AVCHD.
I would appreciate any advice about some specific information (one of each in details) about PF24, 60i, PF30 and 24F. So, what is the purpose of those four frame rate, why is it works best under circumstance? Which one works best for all overall camcorder shoots? I am mostly enjoying to record footage of landscape... and recently record of my little pug. Soon will do some footage for videoblogging for Deaf community mostly related to self-advocacy about technology-related to promote and increasing independence and self-sufficient within Deaf community.
I also plan to ‘incorporate’ some of this and that, among some of my photos, some of footage clips and put pieces together in Final Cut Pro X, and output them to iPad, iPhone... and interactive PDF file to enhance more pleasant, unique interactive experience on iPad 2. As an example, I am in awe of former VP Al Gore’s Our Choice ebook on iPad. His ebook is truly amazing, truly a ice-breaker and eye-opener.
Plus, plan to do some project for other Deaf photographers learning about Photoshop and all techniques and stuff. Sad to say is that not many of other online videos are closed capitioned, as in CC for short.
I am mostly familiar with Quicktime concept basically. Now that I own a new camcorder and recently purchased Final Cut Pro X few weeks ago. Now it is a good time to find an ideal ‘digital’ workflow with AVCHD footage files. I see that it is recommended that all of my footage files must be converted to ProRes, since Final Cut Pro X likes to work with ProRes.
From what I had read many forums, I am unsure of any advantage NOT to convert ProRes, Final Cut Pro X automatically import and do the rest for you. But the problem is that Final Cut Pro X is not able to “see” .mts footage files (AVCHD). I think the AVCHD is really weird for some reason... or is it just me?
By the way, I still not able to import .mts files from camcorder connection... and even not able to read or understand .mts files sitting on hard drive. It must be something that I have done wrong. It was not very clear as to do the right approach, because Final Cut Pro X doesn’t have sufficient info to explain this in details. I am still confused and unsure.
By the way, I generally understand the importance of appropriate colour management concept, because it is a must to do with photography workflow, so on. I am very thorough with it and really into it. Since Final Cut Pro X and own a HD camcorder, it brings in some interesting perspective, enhance more experience and all. Anyway, I calibrate monitor with X-Rite ColorMunki Photo. I don’t know if this is going to mess up with overall video editing workflow when using/working with Final Cut Pro X. Some advice and suggestion would be deeply (yes, deeply) appreciated in advance.
What is more, I also own Adobe Creative Suite CS5.5 Master Collection. I already made a couple of photo books with InDesign and export them to PDF and have it published with service provider.
I know I put all information in here at all once. Just to help some of you as to what I would like to achieve and hope to find more efficiency and most reasonable digital video editing workflow. I also want to understand the difference between the four frame rates and understand the why and what’s not ideal to use PF24 or 60i or PF30 or 24F, so on. By the way, I also purchased Motion and Compressor from App Store.
In closing, any advice, technique or tips would be deeply, deeply appreciated. Have an amazing day, friends.
    Cordially, Brian

I have several Canon HD cameras (two different HF models) with at least some of these frame rate options. It is important to find out what they really mean with your camera. What I found was that the 30 frame progressive option was not what it claimed to be- the camera's data sheet seemed to say it was PF30, but it was really a modified 60i clip. I think the PF24 was also wonky in that regard and actually also a 60i based file, so I discarded that option as well.
Unfortunately, the basic google search does not reveal specific info about how your camera does this stuff. I think I actually had to talk to Canon tech support to find out why it wasn't working the way my google searches indicated PF24 and PF30 should. Check it out, get specific info for your camera. These Canon's are consumer cameras and don't do things the way a "pro" HD camera does. In spite of that, I've been very pleased with the projects I've done with them.
It was my experience in the end, that with Final Cut Pro 7, it worked better just to shoot in 60i, using the same resolution and data rate settings for all clips.
It might be different with FCP X, so I'd suggest shooting 60 seconds in each format, importing them into FCP X, and seeing if you can use them and how they look. With a standardized length you can compare file size, etc. to extrapolate for a bigger project.
The MTS file thing doesn't affect your workflow if you use the "Create archive..." button when the you import from the camera. It will save the video files (and all the folders and files related) together on a specified hard drive so that FCP X can see the files as clips and import only your chosen clips into your specified event. This also allows you to immediately back up the camera archive to a second drive.
MTS files are only a problem if you drag the MTS files off the camera to a folder on your Mac, you will no longer be able to import them directly. FCP X needs the folder structures and databases included in the folders.
For my orphaned MTS files that must be converted, I use the Turbo HD.264 from El Gato. It is less than optimal for editing, but it is a tool I have in my kit. Fortunately I learned to "archive" my cameras early enough that I don't have many of the MTS files hanging around.
    Best wishes. Joel.

  • IDT driver update = No sound from the built-in speakers

I just recently bought an HP - dv6 WF536AV Laptop.
The sounds were proper from the built-in Altec Lansing speakers , till i updated the audio drivers via HP Support Utility.
Now i do not get any playback from the speakers mentioned above, but while plugging in my iPod headphones, there is audio in the headphones.
I've tried to reinstall the IDT Audio driver from the HP Support utility as well as one downloaded from the website :

     Yet, nothing is resolved.
Of what i understood from various articles on the web, was that the new driver sets the headphone jack as the primary device for audio output and hence it does not reach the speakers.
Also , I'm pretty sure of this not being a hardware conflict since the laptop is recently purchased and i've rarely used the headphone jack.

  • How can I tell what character encoding is sent from the browser?

    Hi,
I am developing a servlet which supposed to be used to send and receive message
in multiple character set. However, I read from the previous postings that each
Weblogic Server can only support one input character encoding. Is that true?
And do you have any suggestions on how I can do what I want. For example, I
have a HTML form for people to post any comments (they may post in any characterset,
like ShiftJIS, Big5, Gb, etc). I need to know what character encoding they are
using before I can read that correctly in the servlet and save in the database.

From what I understand (I haven't used it yet) 6.1 supports the 2.3
servlet spec. That should have a method to set the encoding.
Otherwise, I don't think you can support multiple encodings in one
    instance of WebLogic.
From what I know browsers don't give any indication at all about what
encoding they're using. I've read some chatter about the HTTP spec
being changed so it's always UTF-8, but that's a Some Day(TM) kind of
thing, so you're stuck with all the stuff out there now which doesn't do
    everything in UTF-8.
Sorry for the bad news, but if it makes you feel any better I've felt
your pain. Oh, and trying to process multipart/form-data (file upload)
forms is even worse and from what I've seen the API that people talk
about on these newsgroups assumes everything is ISO-8859-1.

  • Cannot "enable directory listing" from the wadm CLI

With SJSWS 6.1 sp1 up to sp11, there was a documented bug that caused directory listing to work even though the ACL was:
    acl "default";
    authenticate (user, group) {
      prompt = "Sun ONE Web Server";
    allow (read, execute, info) user = "anyone";
allow (list, write, delete) user = "all";With SJSWS 7.0, this bug was fixed. The default installed ACL is exactly the same from 6.1 to 7.0. e.g. the "list" right is given only to [all] authenticated user, and not everyone. So requesting a "GET /images/" will give you a 401 unauthorized, as should have happened in 6.1, which causes your browser to prompt you to login.
By default, 7.0 webserver configs are created with directory listing enabled with "index-common". But it can also be disabled, directing the user to a defined static file on the web server disk. i.e.:
Service method="(GET|HEAD)" type="magnus-internal/directory" fn="send-error" path="/path/on/disk/notFound.html"In either case, out of the box, neither enabling nor disabling directory listing matters because the default ACL denies directory listing in the prior case, and denies the "notFound.html" response in the later. Note "allow (list) user = all" requires authentication for the "list"privilege.
To fix this, you change the ACL so the "list" privilege is in the first ACI, i.e., 'allow (read, execute, info, list) user = "anyone";'
The problem is that even though the ACL file can be modified in the Admin Web GUI, it cannot be modified from the the wadm CLI.
So, because of this, technically one cannot truly enable directory listing (wadm enable-directory-listing) using wadm. The best you can do is manually edit the existing ACL, or create a new ACL file and set that new file using wadm.
I don't even see a way, using wadm, to dump new content into the ACL file. Without the GUI, you are stuck. And you cannot perform remote administration for this feature using wadm.
If we admins are creating TCL scripts to automate creating and configuring webserver configs, this feature cannot be configured.
I would like to know if I am wrong, and how I could resolve this using the wadm CLI alone.
And if the default is going to remain that the "list" privilege requires authentication, this should be documented in the SJSWS7 documentation for enabling and disabling directory listing.

pull-config does not work in this case because of two reasons:
    1. you must still manually edit the ACL file (can already do that on the admin server)
    2. and you must make that change on a node which has the configuration
In my case, I want to remotely manage the configuration using wadm. But I do not want to log into one of the nodes in the server farm.
And I want to avoid having to edit the ACL file manually if possible, or through the GUI which requires manual intelligent point-and-click efforts.
Seems like my only bet is to:
    1. create the config via the wadm tcl shell
    2. then outside of the wadm command, execute some script that can perform a scp to the admin server, or a ssh for a local copy of a previously written ACL file - which requires a lot of extra setup to make that happen.
    3. then get back into wadm to execute the other tasks
I want to avoid step #2.

  • What command can be run from the cmd to inquire about the language layout that is used right now?

I have windows 7 32bit platform. Is there any command that can be run from the command line just to inquire about the language bar that is currently in use? Suppose I have English keyboard on my machine but I am switching between 3 languages when I write
my documents (e.g. English, German, Spanish). I want to know if there is any way to tell what language layout that is in current use as seen in the language bar. This question is not about how to change language layout from the command line -- just to know
what layout. For example, the command can return some sort of string to indicate which layout is currently in use: "english", "german", "spanish", and so on.
My ultimate goal from this question is to pass this output into an external editor that will hopefully change font based on the input language? Any help to achieve this goal will be much appreciated.
Or put differently, what is the best way to tell an external editor like Emacs about the current language layout that is in current use?

For the current input language you can try using
    reg query "HKCU\Keyboard Layout\Preload" /v 1
The return value includes an eight digit hex value. The first four digits indicate either default layout for the language (all zeros) or a variation (non-zero). The last four digits are the locale id - see:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/goglobal/bb964664.aspx
From this table, you can see in the example above my input language is English - Australia.
For the keyboard layout you could try
    WMIC Path Win32_Keyboard Get Layout
0409 is an English - US keyboard.
For a few other ideas/methods try reading
