MSI Neo i875P FIS2R Vdd & Vtt Problems?!

I have been reading that other Intel 875 chipset Boards like ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe & Abit IC7-Max3 are suffering from Vdd & Vtt problems!!!
Does anyone know if this is the case with the MSI Neo i875P FIS2R boards aswell?
Did anyone follow this up?
Would be interested if this is the case & if anyone has done any mods to their RAM slots.
Thx

No they Dont, and it was only the First revisions of those other Manufacturers Boards That are Really Second Revision i875's, and it has Nothing to due with the INTEL (i875) Chipset, It had to do with a Batch of Bad Winbond Memory Voltage Regulating Chips, that Both ABIT and ASUS Used...MSI does NOT use either that Particular Winbond Chip, or the Same DDR-Power Architecture that MSI employs on their i875P...........Sean REILLY875

You mention you upgrade to a new mobo but then did you did a fresh install of your OS in your hard disk? Alternatively stop overclocking for the time being and run everything in default and see whether the problem goes away
Yes, of course that I reinstall windwos. Hard disk was formated. I try to disable overclock but nothing change.
    I got only E8400 3 GBb to 3,6Gb FSB 400.

  • MSI NEO 2 FIS2R 6728 questions

Guys, A couple of questions about my 865 PE Neo2 Fis2r board.
    1. I'm running Speedfan and I've noticed something odd. My core voltage readings. I have a P4 Northwood 3.4 and here are my readings:  vcoreA: 1.54v   vcoreB: 2.21v
Why is coreB voltage so high? Is it normal for the voltage to be so high on coreb?
I also verified the reading using Everest and it matches Speedfan.
    2. While I'm at it does anyone know why MSI stopped updating drivers for our boards?
For Instance on my board: Sound drivers for directX C were never updated the latest version is for directX B. I'm sure everyone knows how quickly sound driver can bring your rig to its knees.
Also the on board Sata and Promise 376/378 controller drivers are way outdated. If you go to any of the driver sites such as driver scan they these will come up quickly.
I went to intel site and found what I believe are the latest SATA, but couldn't find the correct ones on the Promise site or the DirectX C sound drivers on the Cmedia site for our boards.

    1) I think A stands for your CPU and B stands for your RAMs.
    2) These are already EOL boards for some years already, it's common that they R&D for newer boards.

  • Msi Neo 875p Fis2r Pcb 1.0 Bios 1.7

trying to overclock with this bios, got to 240 mhz FSB with 400 mhz RAM, system would boot but crash after playing UT2k4.  Tried upping Core voltage to 1.700volts, system would not boot at all.  I had to clear the CMOS.  I'm now running at 205 mhz.  Is there a problem with this bios that you can't make your core voltage 1.7?  I hear 1.8,1.9 and 2.0 are not good for overclocking or running your comp in general.

Could be that the power supply to the RAM is also a bit scarce, try upping that to 2.7V -2.8V (depending on what your RAM can handle), and as Kingfisher said - post your system specs (or alternatively have it as a signature).

  • Neo FIS2R 875P LAN Problems...

Got my board back from MSI....the same exact board I RMAd to them after flashing to 1.4 killed it....and the bios is now OK (vers 1.4) and so far it is pretty stable.  BUT....one of the problems I had before was that I had trouble getting the on-board LAN to run, which is one of the reasons I flashed to 1.4 in the first place.
In any case, the LAN is still not working---it detects a connection, an orange light comes on at the connection point when my cable connection is hooked up, says the connection is working, says it sends data, but it isn't receiving data.  I installed my old piece of s*** D-Link NIC, and it runs fine.
Anyone have any suggestions?  Or do I just have a bad LAN on this?
Device Manager says the device is working fine, and I have no conflicts.
Thanks in advance for everyone's help.

    ATI 9500 Pro
(that's all I have hooked up right now till it's up and running)

Finally figured out what was wrong---I posted the solution in another thread.  Here's another copy of the post:
I was having trouble getting my on-board LAN to operate. I tried everything I could think of but couldn't get it up and running. Device Manager said it was functioning properly. I suspected a bad RJ45 jack and was preparing to RMA the board.
As a last ditch effort, I contacted my ISP. Based upon prior experiences with them, I was NOT hopeful that they could help. The tech had me try a bunch of things I had already tried. Nothing worked.
Eventually he had me unplug my cable modem, and after 5 seconds, plug it back in. Then I went to the DOS command prompt, gave the "ipconfig/renew" command (which we had tried before without success)....and lo and behold, it was up and running. And after I rebooted the computer, I expected the problem to return, but it was still functioning properly.
He said he has seen this before on Windows XP (I use the Home Edition), and said it has something to do with the way XP initially caches the network connection.
In any case, if anyone else is having similar difficulties, give it a try, and post the results.
After having a lot of initial misgivings about this board, things are looking better. I'm running the 1.5 bios and the board has been rock-solid.
Here's a brief rundown of my rig:

Time to start adding on a bunch of crap and keep my fingers crossed.

  • Early Chipset Initialization problem with K8T Neo 2 - FIS2R

    This one has me stumped.
I went to install a new CPU fan earlier today and while I was installing the fan I had to remove my sound card and AGP card so I could screw the fan to the side of the heat sink.
I got all that done and went to start the computer back up and now I get a contineous high pitched sound while at the same time 3 beeps. The D bracket shows a green LED on 1 so this is the "early chipset initialization" problem.
What is causing this and why would this happen after a fan installation?

  • MSI Neo-FIS2R build questions! & SATA RAID questions!

This is going to sound like a stupid question. And I'm not even sure that I know what I am asking.
I've built two computers so far. One with an MSI K7N2G-L and another with an MSI K7N2G-ILSR. Both nForce2 motherboards with AMD processors.
Here's what I'm getting at... I'm planning on building a new machine with either the Abit IC7-G or the MSI Neo-FIS2R (both 875P boards obviously).
Now, when I built the two nForce2 boards it was really easy. I put all of the components together, turned on the machine, the bios auto enabled settings, I put the windows xp pro cd in the cd drive and formatted the hard drive for NTFS, I then installed the OS and booted the system! Then I intstalled the drivers fromt the MSI CD. Ran Live BIOS and flashed to the most current motherboard BIOS. SIMPLE! Everything worked fine.
Here's my question. For the 875P system will everything pretty much happen the same way? Or do I need to do additional things? One of my main concerns (especially if I go with the Abit IC7-G over the MSI) is flashing the bios. Do I need a floppy drive or something? I've never flashed a BIOS outside of the Live BIOS utility. I don't want to put a floppy drive in my system! What are my options here?
Not that I want to do it, but if I needed to (say with the Abit board) HOW DO I FLASH THE BIOS WITHOUT USING THE LIVE BIOS UTILTY?
Bottom line is, I'm building this system for someone else and I want it all to be a painless experience (especially if they are looking over my shoulder).
One final question. This may sound even more stupid than the first question. I'm purchasing SATA drives ONLY. I'm not purchasing any IDE drives. So, here's my question...Can I boot from a SATA drive? What if it's in RAID 0? From the posts in the forums it appears that the SATA and RAID on these 875P motherboards either doesn't work or isn't very reliable (may potentially lose data). IS THIS AT ALL TRUE?! I'm stupid when it comes to RAID and SATA. Any help in this department would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    3. If I install two SATA drives and set up a RAID
(either 0 or 1) which drive does the OS go on?
I have never built a raid array (as yet) and have never owned a SATA disk (as yet), but from what I have read...
RAID is a method of connecting several disks together so they perform as a single disk.  That means, in response to your points above:
    1) If you install only one drive (SATA or not), it will not be set up as RAID.
    2) If you install two SATA drives, you have the option of using them as two individual drives OR setting them up in a RAID 0 or 1 configuration.
    3) Ok, RAID 0 is known as "striping" - this method makes two disks look like one big disk, that works twice as fast as the individual drives.  Every time the PC writes data to the drive, it sends the first bit of data to drive 1, the second to drive 2, then drive 1 again etc etc.  This speeds up the disk read/write time, as the two disks can both work simultaneously.  To the OS though, the two drives appear as one.  The OS will be spread across both disks - it needs both of them connected to run, take either disk out and you'll be left with half an OS (that obviously won't work)
With RAID 1 (known as "mirroring"), you still use two disks.  You will only have a useable capacity of the smallest disk however (using two 40gb drives only gives you a total of 40gb of space. with RAID 0, two 40gb disks will make one big one - nearly 80gb large {I think the RAID system itself uses a bit of space}).  The advantage with mirroring, is the second disk holds an exact copy of the first.  If one disk goes bang, you have a duplicate copy on the second - so, to answer your point above, the OS will reside on both disks.
To summarize, RAID 0 is good for increasing speed; RAID 1 is good for increasing protection of your data as you have two copies incase a drive gives up.  To get the best of both worlds you need RAID 0+1 (this method needs 4 disks though, 2 striped - then 2 mirroring the striped).
There is a lot to RAID - just search the net for some manuals if you're interested, hope this gives you an idea though (providing I've got it right!)

  • MSI NEO 3 P45 PROBLEM

    Hi guys,
I have an MSI NEO 3 P45 with a Q6600, geforce 8800 gtx, and 4 gigs of OCZ ram which can run up to 1066MHZ. My southbridge is on auto, northbridge is on 1,2 VOlt and FSB voltage is at 1,3. My cpu voltage is at 1,46 voltage and my cpu is overclocked to 3 ghz.
Sometimes when i overclock my cpu, it works on the first boot perfectly but then i have problems in booting and it says that it cannot read my harddrive. THen i have to reset the cmos and start again. it is very annoying. do you guys think that the northbridge is damaged?

I agree with loonym,1.46 seems way too high for only 3ghz on a Q6600...Ive never overclocked a quad yet but i think 3ghz is easily obtained with stock volts (or a very small increase in volts)
I also agree that there is no way you damaged your NB (at least the chances are extremely little)
Ive done a google search for the PSU you listed and came back with this .....(Voltage max +5V-30A...+12 V1/V2-16A/16A....+12 V3/V4 16A/16A)
if this is your PSU than it says your +12v rails are @ only 16amps (this is extremely low for just running your system nevermind overclocking)
you need to get a new PSU ASAP if you want to overclock...If I was you I would get a new PSU ASAP regardless and get something that's a single rail PSU with a +12v rail above 30amps...the corsair vx/tx are great choices and we have seen many many people switch to these in the last year(  not a single complaint yet )
regardless of the PSU I would definitely remove your overclock and start again.....how did you come to this overclock?....did you do it correctly by slowly raising FSB while running stability tests? or did you just crank it up to 3ghz and throttle it with volts till it booted?
I'm positive that your overclock is unstable...and this is the heart of all problems
another question: what kind of cooling do you have?

  • Assorted MSI Neo-2-S mainboard problems

I just bought a MSI NEO-2-S Mainboard. I unwrap it and the first thing I see is a sticker on the AGP slot that says "1.5volt ONLY".
I cannot find *ANY* information to tell me how many volts my MSI video card is..
I have a MSI Geforce 4 TI-4200 card (64mb version). I need to know if it is 1.5 volt or not, or how many volts, so I don't burn my new mainboard.

Thank you for the quick replies.
Now I am having a different problem. The motherboard will not power up.
It is a 300 watt power supply, should that not be sufficient?
I unhook everything..floppy, fans, hard drive..still no power up.
I try putting ram in different slots, still no power up. Nothing. Not even on that optional connector on the back with 4 LEDs to indicate system status.
I can't figure out what's wrong here. Usually when a mobo will not power up it is improperly seated video card, ram, or some combination thereof.
I have reseated the ram and video card to no avail. I have tried the RAM in slots 1&3, 1&2, and 2&4.
One other quirk is while this IS a P4 PS because it has the 12V CPU power hookup (the 4 connector one) there is no "power switch" or "reset switch" wire(s) to go to the motherboard. Should that cause a problem? I had a P3-350 in there just fine prior to putting in the Neo-2-S, it never had any problems needing that wire. Do I need a new case?
    System specs:
    300 Watt PS
    MSI Neo-2-S mainboard

    1GB (512 * 2) Matched Geil pairs
    P4 2.4c Intel CPU
    WD 1200JB HD
Can anyone help..I've never had so much trouble with components before. :/ I build PC's all day long at work, never had problems like these. This is my first Pentium 4.
I can't get the mainboard to power up, period..we're not even to the point it could POST, because no power..
I have no spare parts to swap in to see if anything is DOA..and if I start playing "guess which item to send back" it's going to get very costly in restocking fees. :/

  • BIOS problem? MSI Neo P35 F

    Hi,
I need help regarding some problem.
My PC has the following specs:
    Motherboard: MSI Neo P35 F
I replaced the old CPU (Intel Core 2 duo 2.13 Ghz, E6420) by a new one (Intel Quad Core Q9650).
From then, the pc didn't recognize the new CPU
so I updated the old BIOS with the latest version (2.1) according to recognize the new CPU.
Now the pc boots, recognizes the CPU, but BIOS does not have the AHCI options possible, and I always get a "no hard disk detected" kind of error.
I only have IDE available, not even RAID.
So I need the AHCI too, to get a good connection to my hard drive I read somewhere.
(so I need a modded bios for that I suppose, can I find that anywhere?)
    Other problems to mention:
Each time I change something in BIOS, like time/date or boot sequence, and I save, he does not boot further...
Each time I want to reboot it, I have to remove battery in order to get him rebooted again. (it's new battery)
With some workaround (in GRUB, running a linux os), I can get the OS started, so the hard disk and OS still work fine. But when shutting down the computer, he doesn't boot the correct way, and have to remove battery again. So maybe the BIOS is corrupted, or the shutting down method is wrong?
What could be the problem? Could I solve it by a modded bios?

Anyone have any issues when connecting the RESET connector from the Xaser3 V2000a case to the MSI Neo-FIS2R 875P Mobo? When I do the board will not even POST. Could it be a faulty plug on the case as I doubt its the Mobo?
Btw.. only OCed the processor to 233/466 at default Vcore resulting in 3.26Ghz. Will be going much higher as well as OCed the Ram.
Mind you.. curious why WinXP+SP1 only shows the Processor at 2.80Ghz and not the new speed (3.26Ghz)? SiSandra also shows this but when I use MSI's InfoView it shows at 3.26Ghz. Probably nothing to worry about.. just wondering..

  • S-ATA Hard Drive on 865PE NEo-2 FIS2r M/B

I've recently bought several components (which I'll list below) and am having a bit of trouble connecting the HDD and configuring the BIOS to recognise it. I'm new to building computers, so please forgive my 'newbieness'.
    The main components are:
    M/B 865 Neo-2 FIS2R 800FSB
    Processor P4 2.6 800 FSB
HDD Seagate 120Gb SATA 8Mb cache
    Memory Corsair 256Mb XMS3200 x 2
    Video MSI Ti4200 8x AGP
I have several questions, and I hope you're patient enough to read this and consider a reply.
    1. There are 4 SATA connectors on the M/B. I am presuming that I should connect this HDD to SATA 1, but when I do, I cannot get the BIOS to detect it nor can I see the 2 cdrom drives I have on the secondary IDE channel. Furthermore, I get a "Fast Trak" error message telling me the BIOS was not saved. When I connect the HDD to SATA 3, then it is recognised, I get no error messages and I can access both cdroms, but I'm not convinced this is the optimal setup for my system.
    2. How should I be setting up the BIOS with respect to SATA / PATA and RAID, if this SATA HDD is the only HDD in the system and the other 2 drives are IDE CDROM's? I want the HDD to be the boot drive (of course).
My preference is to set the HDD up to SATA 1 and be able to boot Win XP from it, without FastTrak errors and without "losing" access to the CDROM drives.
I hope this question made sense to someone and that someone's answer will make sense to me!!
    Cheers
    Darryl

Did you switched you operating mode in NATIVE mode?
I had the same problem and native mode solved it.

  • Attention all Neo 875P FIS2R users!...Your opinion is needed!...

Hi...I recently purchased the Neo 875P FIS2R after reading some fantastic reviews on it. However, I was browsing the AnandTech forum last night and most of the replies in the topic were extremely negative towards the board and MSI...People sending them back etc. I have not built my new system yet with the Neo FIS2R so I was wondering what other people's opinions of this board are, how they are finding it's performance, stability etc before I build.
All input will be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks from Colin.
P.S.- Overclocking for me is NOT a priority...stability I feel is most important to me.

If you are going to say something like this you should post a link to where it is. I have never seen MSI make any statements about cutting PAT off. If this is your guess say so, but don't quote it as fact unless you can prove it is true.
See this for someone else's guess:
"As far as I know, all i875 motherboards disable PAT after 210MHz.
It may be part of the Intel licensing agreement."
I didn't know. That is what I was I read on here.
I didn't know that all the mobos did. It is odd then because at 225FSB on my abit board, Sisoft Sandra and CPU-Z both report that PAT is still on. The same was not said with my MSI board. After 218 PAT was disabled and a took a loss in mem scores.
But don't get me wrong I recommend the MSI board to anyone except the extreme overclocker.
Sorry if I mislead you guys.

I'm running un-oc'd too, and I haven't had any problems.  Smooth sailing with Bios 1.2.  Was smooth before I flashed to 1.2, too.  I've resisted flashing to 1.3 or 1.4, even though I'm tempted, because everything runs fine as is.  Things aren't perfect (the very very very occasional crash occurs, and things you wouldn't expect to be wonky sometimes are, such as occasional DVD-ROM drive problems, speaker problems, network problems, or vidcard problems, butI don't think that these are on account of the mobo).  Really, though, everything pretty much works as expected, looks reasonable in SiSoft Sandra (in terms of performance), and is more stable than my previous Win 98 SE/ASUS A7V installation.  Only unfixable problem I've had is the software that MSI provided w/ the board is all deadly.  It doesn't work at all.  The utilities disc won't run, and programs installed from it (through Windows Explorer) have bad hang and crash problems.  Otherwise, all is well.
Nevertheless, I CAN'T WAIT for the day that MSI supplies a stable BIOS that everybody loves, that is 100% proven to make the board do what it's advertised as being able to do.  The same goes for their CoreCenter software.  It doesn't work for me now, but I'd love for it to be able to.
Anyway, I expect to live w/ the board as is for a while.  I'll drop in a Prescott CPU next year, stick w/ my Audigy 2 and All in Wonder cards and my 1 Gig of Corsair PC3200 LL DDR DRAM for a while, and I don't expect to have to upgrade otherwise for at least 3 years from now.  Hopefully, this setup will keep me running the latest and greatest software with above-acceptable performance through then.
