Installing Windows 7 on the Satellite X200

Hi
first time user to forums so forgive me if I miss anything that is relevant to topic
Have a problem:
I want to upgrade my OS from vista ultimate to Windows 7
When I put in the disk it goes through all the sequences of a clean install but when all the files are copied over it does the reboot and comes up with an error
Missing driver.....
I find out after reading several other forums that it uses a SATA config for the hard drives and there is no driver set on the install disk
Now my issue is:
a) Where exactly is the hard drive driver I need
b) How do I put it on a Windows 7 ultimate install disk?
Appreciate any help I can get
Thank you in advance.
Grail

Hey Grail,
The driver that you need is called Intel Storage Manager. You can download it on the Toshiba page or from Intel directly. You can copy the files on a USB stick for example, it should be possible to load them from USB stick.
Furthermore Windows 7 isnt released as yet and in worst case you have to wait until driver support starts for Windows 7. At the moment you can only try to use the Vista drivers.

  • Installing Windows XP on Satellite A10 without CD/DVD drive

I want to reinstall windows xp on a Toshiba A10 and the CD Rom is dead ...
I've tryed to reinstall it from a bootable usb stick but i can't make it to boot from it.
I was thinking about that LAN boot thing.
Can I install windows from a lan pc and if a i can, can someone explain how or give me a tutorial or something?
How can i install windows from the usb stick?
Please help me i really need this to work.

    Hi
It seems that the BIOS does not support booting from the USB flash drive.
The booting from LAN is possible but if you want to boot from LAN then you will need an RIS Server.
Here is a Microsoft Step-by-Step Guide to Remote OS Installation
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb742378.aspx
But to be honest I would recommend other method.
If you want to install the Win XP on the HDD then you should copy the i386 folder from the Win XP CD to HDD (you can remove the HDD from notebook and could connect it to other computer using USB controller).
Then you should go to i386 folder which you copied to HDD and should execute the setup.exe or winnt.exe
Both exe file should start the installation setup.

    hi.
did you make the Lenovo recovery dvd set from your original factory windows installation?
    if so, then:
    - simply swap out the platter drive for the new, blank ssd.
    - make sure that your optical drive is listed first in your bios boot order.
    - boot disk #1 of the recovery disk set and follow the prompts.
    - in short order you'll have the ssd set up with "all lenovo functions" as you've described you wish.
    - you won't need the Windows key from the sticker on the bottom of your machine.
if you didn't make the set, then it'll take more work. once you've installed Windows on the ssd, you'll need to get Thinkvantage System Update from the driver matrix here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-77167 and install it. you'll be able to update hardware drivers and Thinkvantage apps from it. once you've completed that, you can double check the matrix to catch anything newer than offered by TVSU.

  • How to install windows on the SSD (Y580)

I have bought an Y580 recently wIth a 64GB SSD and 1TB HDD. I asked the salesperson upfront if the OS would be on the SSD. He said yes. Turns out that it is not. When i returned to them they told me it's a hybrid drive solution. And they have no idea how to install Windows on the SSD.
I did some research and found out that Lenovo uses *Rapiddrive* to speed up programs. Hence why i can't see the SSD in WIndows as it is merged with the 1TB HDD.  In Disk management 2 disks show , 0 and 1 , but Windows asks to give disk 1 a MBR or GPT (this is apparantly due to the rapiddrive methode).
    My questions:
    * Is it possible to install Windows on the SSD and if so how can that be done without loosing the backup on the hidden partition of the 1TB disk? (so that OKR still works)
    * What are the benefits of Rapiddrive over using the SSD as bootdisk?

Since it is a hybrid drive, it works a little bit differently; Lenovo's "Rapiddrive" is also different from other hybrids, and in the sake of making it "user friendly" and seen as a single disc they have probably nerfed some configurability for the intermediate/advanced users. However, Windows should already be installed on the SSD portion of the drive, this should be done automatically according to this press release:
    http://shop.lenovo.com/us/sitelets/ee/consumer-news
"In the factory we will preload not just Windows 7 on the SSD, but also our Lenovo applications like OneKey™ Theater or OneKey™ Rescue System. The applications, operating system, drivers and other files are all fully-optimized for Enhanced Experience to make them load much faster. This, combined with their installation on the SSD will make the boot time to Windows desktop even faster. Some portion of the SSD will also be reserved as the Windows Paging File — this is used by Windows as 'virtual memory' additional to the normal RAM installed inside the computer. With the SSD acting as the Paging File, general Windows 7 performance will also benefit, especially when multitasking several applications.
The remaining space, which will typically be around 15GB on a 32GB SSD, will be empty, ready for the user to install their favorite applications and files."
I have some of the fastest SSD's around installed on my desktops (SATA III), and while they are blazing fast, keep in mind the whole boot sequence still isn't going to be instantaneous even with an SSD (the biggest differennce you will notice is by the time Windows is loaded, it's fully loaded to the RAM, whereas a normal HDD you may see the desktop but your PC will still be cranking away with startup processes). If your startup is taking 30 seconds or less, maybe even a little longer, it's probably accessing the SSD just fine; if it's taking closer to 60 seconds, then yeah it may need to be reinstalled/reconfigured.
As for reinstalling, sorry I won't really be able to help, hopefully someone else can come along; I personally have never used OKR anyways, and aside from doing a ghost backup I wouldn't say for sure that OKR would be salvageable with a fresh install. And because the Rapiddrive is its own technology, half SATA half PCI-E, I also couldn't tell you if it's even possible to fully seperate the two and keep them as distinct drives.

  • After install Windows 10, the texts in Skype are not very neat, with low definition

After  install Windows 10, the texts in Skype are not very neat, with low definition. This has happend just with Skype. Do you know how I can fix it?

I HAVE FOUND A FIX! Searching through the support blogs paid off in a big way. A minor registry edit is all it took and my drive is working like new! Here's the fix. My system is Windows 10 64-bit.  Resolution 5: Create a registry subkey
Note To use this method, you must be logged on to Windows as an administrator. If you need help verifying that you are an administrator, go tohttp://support.microsoft.com/gp/admin
Important Follow the steps in this section carefully. Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Before you modify it, back up the registry for restoration in case problems occur.
To create the registry subkey, follow these steps:
Press the Windows logo key + R to open the Run box. (or right-click on windows icon in lower left corner)
Type regedit in the Run box, then press Enter. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow
In the navigation pane, locate the following registry subkey:
        HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi
Right-click atapi, point to New, then click Key.
Type Controller0, and then press Enter.
Right-click Controller0, point to New, and then click DWORD(32-bit) Value .
Type EnumDevice1, and then press Enter.
        Right-click EnumDevice1, click Modify....
Type 1 in the Value data box, and then click OK.
        Exit Registry Editor.

Someone plz enlighten me on this issue..
I need to install xp as my college progs and not vista compatible.

    Hi
Your Windows Setup does not see the HDD because the SATA drivers were not included into the XP installation CD.
The new notebook generation are equipped with HDD SATA controller. But the Win XP or Vista dont have a SATA driver integrated.
SO you will have to download the Intel Matrix Storage Manger. There you can find the SATA drivers.
You could use nLite software. Its free and it will help you to create a new XP CD and to include the SATA driver. Then you could use this new CD for XP installation.
This Toshiba document might be helpful.

  • How to install Windows XP in Satellite Pro L300-1A9?

    Hi!,
first of all, sorry if I'm asking something really obvious, but I'm quite new with this issues...also sorry for my English, I'm not native.
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 1A9 with Windows Vista preinstalled but the thing is I prefer Windows XP. I have tried to install it but it won't work.
I have read lots of posts and comments about this issue in this forum and also in the web. The problem is I don't know if the procedure and the drivers to download are the same for all the L300 models. Mine is L300 1A9.
Anyone could give me some extra simply instructions (I'm a beginner) about how to do solve this problem or any link relating this issue? I have seen many of them, but none about this model L300 1A9.
    Thank you very much!!

    Hi Lars_3,
thank you very much for your reply and interest.
When I say that installing Windows XP doesn't work, I mean that my laptop has Windows Vista but I have tried to reinitialized (format) it to install Windows XP, but when I run the Windows XP (original) disk an error message pops up and I can't continue the installation.
I have had a look to the Toshiba's downloads link you posted, but there's no mention to the L series model. The options available are for M-Series and Net-Book series, so I wonder if it is possible to use one of them for my Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 1A9?
Thank you very much for your kind help!

  • Is it possible to install Windows 7 on Satellite Pro 6100

Is it possible to install windows 7 on a Toshiba Satellite pro 6100 machine? I 'm currently using windows XP.
    thanks.

    Hi buddy,
Do you really think about Windows 7 installation on many years old Satellite Pro 6100???
In my opinion this will not work because its too old and not fast enough. Newest OS that is supported from Toshiba is Windows XP and this should be the best choice for this oldie.
So just be satisfied with Windows XP, its a good choice for older computers! :)

  • Cannot install Windows 8 on Satellite L750 - CPU compatibility issue

Why can I not install Windows 8 Consumer Preview on my Toshiba Satellite L750-22x?
I get a processor compatibility error.
    Intel i3 M380 2.53GHz

    Hi
The internet provides some details about this error message.
It seem that in order to install the Win 8 CP the CPU should support PAE/NX/SSE2 features
Never-eXecute Bit ( [NX bit|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NX_bit] ) allows marking of memory pages as non-executable.
Streaming SIMD Extensions 2 (SSE2) is a previous standard that is supported by Intel and AMD CPU. Therefore all CPUs that support NX would also support SSE2 too.
Usually enabling the XD (for Intel CPUs) or NX (for AMD CPUs) in BIOS should disable this error message.
But if this is not available in BIOS then either the CPU does not supports this feature or the BIOS does not support this option.
According to Intel Ark page the Intel Core i3-380M supports Execute Disable Bit. So possibly the BIOS does not support this feature
    http://ark.intel.com/products/50178/Intel-Core-i3-380M-Processor-
It seems you need to wait for new BIOS

    Hello
Your posting is pretty confusing and it is not easy to understand you.
I dont understand which setup file you want to use but you cannot install operating system with click on some setup file.
You can install Windows 7 using Toshiba recovery image (if you got one) or using original Microsoft Windows 7 installation disc.
So please be nice and explain to me which disc do you have and how do you try to install Windows 7.

You can install Windows 7 if you like. But I doubt you'll ever locate enough of the drivers and utilities to make that laptop work as designed. Toshiba certainly did not create them.
If you have no end of time to burn hunting for those and don't mind some features missing, here's how to install Windows 7.  The disk now uses GPT partitioning, but you want the old MBR partitions. So use the installation package to remove all the existing partitions and create new ones (one is sufficient).

I have a Toshiba Satellite A200-1N2 PSAE3E and I don't want Vista on my laptop. i downgraded the bios to V5.30 But still can't install windows xp and from the bios still there is no optin for SATA.

    Hi
Did you install the SATA drivers firstly?
You need this driver to recognize the HDD!
You should download the Intel Matrix Storage Manager. You should find it either on the Toshiba driver page or on the Intel website.
You must perform the installation from an external USB FDD drive using the F6 button while the Win XP setup.

  • Installing Windows XP on Satellite L40-114

I just bought a Satellite L40-114 for home and education. I just found out I need windows XP for some scientific applications and the VPN software for access, so I tried to install it. I was really disappointed Toshiba does not seem to deliver XP drivers for this laptop. I managed to get the sound working for what its worth (sound skipping) but hotkeys and video drivers is not working at all.
Anyone who had more luck installing Windows XP on this laptop?

    Hi there,
I cannot help you regarding the hotkeys but in case of videodrivers you should visit www.intel.com for video drivers since your machine has an intel 900GMA video chipset.
Just go to the Intel website and download drivers for that chipset, it should work.
Would appreciate some feedback on your success.

    Hi,
I am having a Toshiba Laptop Satellite A200 1m7 PSAE3E, while I am trying to Install windows XP on the laptop, its showing no hard disk installed. Can I get the *Raid* for the laptop? so that I can customize windows XP and detect the hard disk to Install it.
    Thanks in Advance.

    > while I am trying to Install windows XP on the laptop, its showing no hard disk installed
You have to install the SATA drivers!
The notebook supports the SATA controller and the drivers are not a part of the Windows OS!
The SATA drivers are in the Intel Storage Manager!!
Read some threads here regarding this theme to get more details!! There are a lot of threads!
    > Can I get the Raid for the laptop?
No because the notebook does not support RAID controller.
