HP ENVY 15-j013cl Notebook PC Charger [replacing the charger dc connector]

The DC connector to my charger is deformed. Someone tried to force it into their Acer laptop.
Where can I purchase a replacement connector that I can solder?
What color are the  positve and negative wires?
Is the outside of the connector positive or negative?
alternateley
Does anyone sell a replacement wire with the correct molded connector that I could solder at the charger side?
Does the power supply even come apart without melting plastic?
I have ordered a replacement charger from the HP store.  The repaired charger would be a back up.  If radio shack sells the part I may be up and running before my order is delivered.
thank-you for your support
Tom

  • HP ENVY 17T - J100 I NED TO REPLACE THE MAIN HDD TO SSD

I was just wanting to confirm that with the HP ENVY 17T J100 model can upgrade it's HDD to SSD? This model has the 1TB HDD. If I simply clone the HDD to an SSD of the same size.  will it work? Or is there more complex setup to get the raid working between SSD/SSD rather than SSD/HDD?
also i try with 120 ssd and it didnt work. if i change the main 1 TB HDD to 1 tb SSd can i use the recovery disks to return all the windows as factory with the SSD or not and why if not
    Thanks for your time!

I understand you are looking at replacing your HDDs in your notebook with SSDs. I can help you with your question.

You can find the drive list in the product description section,  and also under the Hard Drive list, in Component replacement procedures.
Anything outside of that list would not have been tested with the other hardware, and so is unexplored territory. It is one of those things where if a device has different current requirements, it can put strain on the other hardware or an issue of driver compatibility.

    Hi  ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. It is a great site for information and questions. • Satellite A505-S69803 - How to replace the Wlan card?

Before I go into the details of my problem.
I have rolled out a DSL product, set up hundreds of wireless routers. I was a notebook service tech for 3 years for laptops as well.
I picked up a toshiba cause the price is right, and so far I am learning you get what you pay for.
This machine has a realtek wireless card.
As everyone knows.. Realtek == cheaply made bad hardware.
Toshiba refuses to replace this card.
I need to buy a new card for this laptop.
    I need to know if this is a mini-pci, half height mini-pci, a pci-e, or mini-pci-e card.
I plan on getting an intel for it.
I also need the whitepapers so I can remove the wrist pad / bezel on this unit. They have users guides, but unlike other notebook manufacturers, do not have their service manuals available.
Any assistance to get this laptop fixed would be appreciated. It is leaving town with my parents soon.

    hi vlad2,
realtek is also known to run perfekt under linux - this indicates that the hardware isnt so bad as you think...
toshiba sells the unit as specified - if you wanna have some other hardware choose another notebook modell or replace the wlan by yourself...
if unsure what card is in it , open the door under which the card is located - for an notebook tech pro like you no big thing - and check it.
replacing this piece should be easy...
to answer your complaint: +"Toshiba refuses to replace this card."+
sure this! if it works there is no need to replace and you will get allways the same as spare because this modell comes with it...
i dont like it to repeat me but a notebook technician should be able to disassemble this machine (you will ruin your warranty with this action)
disassembling the covers is a service partner thing - not for customers...
by the way: +"I am learning you get what you pay for"+ means what you see is what you get, spending some extra money is not bad at all...
you cant get a mercedes for the price of a little car...
and whats your technical problem with the wlan?

  • I have an HP ENVY TS 17 Notebook PC that I'm trying to install an ssd

I recently bought an HP ENVY TS 17 Notebook PC, nice laptop. Anyway, I bought a samsung evo ssd, I bought the drive caddy for it online, but I can not get the laptop to see the drive. I pulled it apart 5 different times thinking that I messed up. But after all that I still can't get it to work. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GIGJYBG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. This is the drive caddy that I bought. I thought this was the right one, but I don't know. If anyone can help me, please respond to this post. Thanks

    Hello wily51501,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand your notebook will not recognize a newly installed solid state drive (SSD).
Are you checking in the system BIOS to determine if the drive is detected, or with the HP Recovery / Windows software? Sometimes it's as easy as enabling the drive in the BIOS. You can find information on this here, covered on step 7: Installing or Replacing a Hard Drive
Here is a great guide that walks you through upgrading to an SSD: HP SSD Upgrade Kit Installation Guide. Furthermore this Maintenance and Service Guide has some more specific information for your exact notebook. It could be that the caddy you purchased is defective if the BIOS does not recognize the drive.
Here is a document published by Seagate that talks about drives that are not detected:  The BIOS does not detect or recognize the ATA / SATA hard drive.
    Hopefully this information helps!

  • I'm getting a Plugged in, not charging message after replacing the CPU fan

I just replaced the CPU fan on this notebook last night and finished it today. Its running perfectly at the moment.
The problem is the windows Task bar on my desktop says "Plugged in, not charging" when I mouse over the battery indicator there. I've tried many things to fix it, from uninstalling or disabling the drivers for the devices involved (the ACPI battery and AC adapter) under Windows' device manager, to swapping out with my spare battery.
I've also switched power plans on the off chance that could have been causing some kind of battery charging setting. This did not fix it. The AC adapter works. I've been running this notebook for about two hours now searching for a solution, it just won't charge the battery. I've not tried observed it enough but I believe it will charge while powered off, but not while on. The orange LED indicator by the AC adapter port glows when the machine is off, indicating that it is charging.
I have a feeling the whole "uninstall device drivers for the battery devices" idea is a thing of the past. Everything I found which suggested doing that also mentioned Windows Vista, which at this point in time is a relic (July 2015). When I was replacing the CPU fan, it did get frustrating at times but everything is intact apart from some case clips and a few other plastic case parts. I have reason to believe everything is connected too because its still powered on, meaning its getting power, but it isn't going in to the battery.
    Symptom summary:
    Batteries: OKAC Adapter: OK
    MOBO: PROBABLY OK
    ME: NOT OK   xD

    1. Optimized battery run time, the energy managment completely charges the battery to ensure maximum battery performance
    2. On best battery health, energy management charges only 50% of the battery, it ensures maximum battery life but not performance

  • Can I replace the battery in my HP Notebook?

Battery on my Pavillion dv5 notebook won't charge beyond 53%.  Can I get a new one installed?

    Marble,
    Welcome to the HP Forum.
Yes, you can replace the battery.
You want to check the battery first -- and make sure the issue is not a faulty or weak charger / AC adapter.
The following will help with both concerns:
Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows 7)
Testing and Using the AC Power Adapter
Be sure, when and if you do buy a batter and / or a new AC adapter that you buy for quality and not for price.
Be very careful of cheap knock-off brands sold online:  just because the name of the website has the word 'hp' in it, the product they are selling you might be a cheap, poorly made, apt to blow up, piece of junk.
If you want to be sure the product you buy is made for your computer, buy the HP product for your computer.

  • I dropped my iphone 5 in the water, its dead and when I try to charge it the apple logo comes and goes, thats my only sign of life, I've done many after market repairs but what I want to know is if I should replace the ligntning port or the battery

I dropped my iphone 5 in the water, its dead and when I try to charge it the apple logo comes and goes, thats my only sign of life, I've done many after market repairs but what I want to know is if I should replace the ligntning port or the battery... or just buy a galaxy s5?

If you dropped it in water, and then plugged it in, you may very well have destroyed the battery and/or the logic board.  Charging/plugging in to a power source is very damaging to wet electronic devices.  There is not much you can do but replace the entire iPhone...and since you did repairs yourself Apple will not do an out-of-warranty replacement.
You can try replacing the battery, the lightning port is another issue, but I would not expect that iPhone to work again.

  • My MacBook Pro 13" won't turn on 90% of the time I try to get it running, and when it does turn on, even on a charger, it shuts down if I stop using it for 2  seconds and it won't turn back on. Should I replace the battery?

My MacBook Pro 13" won't turn on 90% of the time I try to get it running, and when it does turn on, even on a charger, it shuts down if I stop using it for 2+ seconds and it won't turn back on. Should I replace the battery?  It doesn't hold a charge either...

    EmadJamal,
the battery won’t melt because of long connection to the AC charger, although that has the potential of reducing the battery’s life.
Do you have access to a second 60 W AC charger to test with your MacBook Pro, or access to a second 13-inch MacBook Pro against which your AC charger could be tested?
