Charging iPod in europ

I am going to Europe on monday and will be buying a charger that I can bring with me, but I have been warned that even with adapter for the outlets, they almost fry everything that is plugged into their outlets. I really don't want to risk frying my iPod, I just bought it. Is there a different way I can charge it without the adapter or can I buy one over there?
Mac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

The Apple charger can be used around the world if you get one of those. You can also charge the iPod by connecting it to a computer. USB is an industry standard and the ports are the same no matter where you or the computer are in the world. If you are a frequent traveler, you can purchase the World Travel Adapter Kit, a set of "duckheads" with prongs that fit different electrical standards, so you can charge your iPod through any electrical outlet around the world. The World Travel Adapter Kit includes six AC adapter plugs for use in North America, Japan, China, the UK, continental Europe, Korea, Australia, and Hong Kong. The Apple kit is a tad expensive though and there are many good third party alternatives, have a look at Amazon for examples.

  • Charging iPod in Europe

Can I simply use my USB charger for the iPod touch in a European adapter that has USB ports? Or must I use a converter or transformer?

No need to convert.  Just make sure you have the apppropriate European adapter.

  • Charging ipod touch in Europe

Hey everybody!!! I am going to Europe soon..(Ukraine) and i am taking my ipod touch with me. But then i realize that i would not be able to charge it cuz we have different outlets. My question is will chargening my ipod in Europ demage it or burn it because European countries have outlets have 220V power and in USa its 110.
    THanks!

    It's 100-240 volts.
You need an adapter, but it can handle that voltage range.

  • Charging Ipod in other countries

    hi
im thinking about buying a 20 gig ipod while im in the US cause ipods are cheaper in the states (im just visiting, i actually live in europe).
The problem is charging the ipod up back home... since the 2 places have different voltages and such. i was told i need an apple power adapter, but then i saw that the 20 gig ipod came with somesort of an "AC adapter". are these the same things or what? im a little confused
To make things a little more complicated, i read somewhere that u need an ipod dock or such to use the power adapter...
All i need to know is how to charge and use my ipod in europe, without it breaking. Does the ipod ship with the things i need? if not, what accesories would i need to purchase?
Im really confused and i'd really appreciate if someone helped me clear some of these things up.
    Thanks in advance

The power adaptor usually comes with the iPod. This is not to be confused the the plug adaptor, which is removable from the power adaptor so you can insert one which is compatible with your outlets.
The plug adaptor kit from Apple has several different plug adaptors for worldwide use, but its kind of expensive, better to buy a new power adaptor in the country you live, this will give you a spare power adaptor plus two plug adaptors.
I checked with Apple about buying individual plug adaptors and - no go!
I live in China and my first iPod, 40g b/w, purchased in Hong Kong, came with the huge UK plug adaptor. The second, a mini for my wife also purchased in HK came with a French style two prong adaptor. Finally my last ipod, 30g photo was purchased in Bangkok. They sold individual plug adaptors so I purchased a US type so now I have it all covered. The plug adaptors were much cheaper than the kit.
Hope this helps, BTW as previously stated in another post, the AC adaptor is multi-voltage 50/60Hz.

  • Do you need a converter to charge Ipod nano (5th gen) using a non-Apple wall charger/plug adapter in Switzerland?

do you need a converter to charge Ipod Nano (5th gen) using a non-Apple wall charger/adapter plug in Switzerland? or is the Ipod Nano dual-voltage?

None of the iDevices are multi-voltage themselves...the chargers from Apple are all 110-240 volt.  You will have to look at the non-Apple charger you have and see if it says it handles 110-240 volts.  Most made today are capable of that range, or they would have to make a different item for each country.
All you probably need is a plug-pin converter, can find those in the airport, at least in Zurich, don't know about Geneva.

  • Is it safe to charge ipad in Europe on converter

Is it safe to charge an ipad in Europe on a converter?

You don't need a converter to charge iPad in Europe.  It is able to charge on either 220 or 110.  What you do need however, is a plug converter, which would let you plug your iPad power charger into a plug in Europe.

  • Can I use my Samsung Wall USB charger to charge iPod Nano (6th gen)? (output is 5.0V, 0.7A)

Can I use my Samsung Wall USB charger to charge iPod Nano (6th gen)? (output is 5.0V, 0.7A)

My biggest concern is that it will fry the circuitry. I don't know what the Amp output is on the Mac-branded wall charger, but I think that USB 2.0 usually only goes up to 0.5A.

Quick answer is: You can if it works, but it is not recommended.
    Hope this helps.

  • Charging iPod with accessories?

It seems my new iPod Nano only charges via my pc connection (USB). When I connect it to my car/radio adapter and/or bose docking station, I get a message that says 'accessory does not support charging'..
Why is this? Must I purchase a special adapter? My older (much older) ipod charged just fine in accessories.??..

Don't know why that site would give you problems, that is the manufacturers site and I get not popups, warnings or anything when going there. Perhaps a problem on your computer? You can also buy the adapter at the Apple Store.
Many older accessories continued to charge iPods through the Firewire pin (number 29 on the dock in case you are interested) even though Apple discontinued FW file transfer with the demise of the iPod mini, which is a few years ago. Succeeding iPods could be charged through the 5V USB pin or the FW pin up until the latest batch of iPods/iPhone which repurposed the pins on the dock connector and no longer include circuits for FW charging. Supposedly Apple informed licensed accessory makers that this would occur more than two years ago.

  • Using Airport Express to charge iPod?

So I plug it into the wall and use the USB cable to hook it up to the iPod... yet there is no charge. From what I've read online, older versions of the APE were able to charge iPods. Has Apple changed something so that they no longer charge, or do I have a defective unit?
    Thanks.

    +do I have a defective unit?+
don't think so. i can't even get my USB light such as this going. the AE works perfectly, though

  • HT1476 Can i use wall power charger 5v 1A to charge Ipod touch5 or only via usb?

Can i use wall power charger 5v 1A to charge Ipod touch5 or only via usb?

5volt 1amp charger is standard for charging the iPod (5watts). Using a USB port can take longer because the charging current can be somewhat less than 1amp. So you are better off using the wall charger.

  • MacBook doesn't charge iPod shuffle

The only way to charge iPod Shuffle is by connecting it via USB port to your computer. So I wonder why on earth my MacBook is not capable to charge it while it is shut down let alone when it is put to sleep! If a battery can be charged in aforementioned situations so should the iPod Shuffle.
where can I report such incompatibility or where can I put a suggestion for Apple people to work it out?

Did you download any programmes like
caffeine to prevent your macbook from sleeping after
    the display has been closed?
No. It gives every indication that it is sleeping normally: pulsing front light, becomes cool to the touch, wakes when lid opened or key pressed, doesn't do anything strange when awakened. I also haven't used pmset to change the sleep setting from default; it pauses before the sleep light pulsates as if it's writing the sleep image to disk.
As a matter of fact, it continues to provide power with two different pads. The cheap inline switch on the pad failed and I had it replaced under warranty. The second unit has the same behavior.

If all your ports are in use, try buying a USB hub, they are inexpensive and will give you several more ports.  Google for them.
