Are you talking about "HP Spectre XT TouchSmart Ultrabook 15-4000ef" ? Based on the following document, you don't need any case:

Just buy a standard HDD and use the spare place which is designed for a normal 2.5" HDD.

Audio problem; buzzing noise (HP Spectre XT TouchSmart 15-4011nr)

Hi, I recently bought an HP Spectre XT TouchSmart 15-4011nr Ultrabook. I'm getting this annoying buzzing noise while listening to music or streaming movies. The store change my laptop for another one and after a few minutes listening I got the same behaviour on the new (same model) laptop. Is this a model problem? Is there anyone with the same problem?

Solution found for me. First, a little background. I have a HP Spectre XT Touchsmart 15-4010NR and also have the same annoying buzzing noise. Usually lasts less than a second and is intermittent. Counted it 13 times in four minutes of a YouTube audio file. Time between the buzzes varies significantly ranging from a second or two to over a minute. Once during the four minutes the audio cut out completely for less than a second. My solution, I unplugged the AC adapter. No more problem whatsoever as long as I'm on the battery. Tried this multiple times, plugging the AC back in for a few minutes, then the same on battery. The result, the buzzing occurs only when the AC is plugged in, and does not occur at all when on battery power. The AC power adapter provides power and charges the battery normally. Not sure what to conclude from this. I suppose the AC power adapter or cord could have an issue. Not going to go out and buy another one to test whether this is the case. It's an inconvenience, but I'll just unplug the AC power when listening to audio. If I listened to long recordings or movies this could become a real issue. I'd be curious to know if it's a hardware problem, or something I could adjust in the settings on the computer, or something else like a grounding issue. Interested if others can confirm my findings and expand on them. out

Brand new Spectre XT Touchsmart 15t-4000 unable to recover

I just received my brand new Spectre XT Touchsmart 15t-4000 Product # A9G16AV a couple of weeks ago. It has Windows 8 Pro installed. I ended up doing a factory restore from the SSD after a couple of days and it worked fine.
I purchased a special 32GB USB 3.0 flash drive to create my recovery media 2 days ago. I created the recovery media and it verified the media successfuly. I wanted to verify that it actually worked so I would have it available in case of emergency. It had 3 options for recovery I first chose minimal install and after about 30 minutes it said recovery incomplete and it would say that everytime I rebooted. Then I chose to recover to factory condition. I came up with the same error. I finally chose to do a complete factory reset. I got the same error, but it went to the Desktop. I could not go to metro or anything, it did not complete the install. I was going to restore it from the SSD again, but had noticed that my recovery partion was erased along with all the other partitions it had when I received my computer. I contacted HP support on the phone which used 2 hours of my cell minutes. The Ticket # for this case is [Personal Information Removed]. I tested my SSD and it is fine. I ended up with 2 options. 1. Send my computer to HP for them to restore my system. 2. Have Recovery media sent to me. Option 1 is out, my computer is brand new & I am not shipping it anywhere. Option 2 was OK, but they said they could not send me a USB recovery drive because they did not have those. I was told they could send me Recovery DVD's. I don't have a DVD drive and did not want to buy one as I just spent $1700.00 on this computer. The tech said he would call me back yesterday and see if there was anything else they could do, he never called. He did not call today either. I tried to call him and it is impossible to call and get a specefic person. I decided today I would go ahead and buy a USB DVD Burner and just have them send me the recovery disk so I ordered one from HP and it will be here next week. In the mean time I don't know how to get the Recovery DVD's sent to me that I was told was an option. I keep getting the run around. All I want is for my computer to be back like it was when I first got it a couple of weeks ago. Right now I cannot even use it.
I also have the Total Care 3 year accidental damage in home service for this laptop. Can anyone of you experts help me? I would greatly appreciate it!

I see your resolved the recovery issue by turning the date back to 2012 in the BIOS.
We will soon have new recovery media available to resolve this.
We will also have a softpaq available that will fix teh Recovery from F11

Advice how to increase Spectre XT Touchsmart Ultrabook battery life.

I will receive my Spectre XT Touchsmart Ultrabook back from the repair center tomorrow.Hopefully the issues that it had were resolved so I'm looking forward to enjoying using it again. However, one of the biggest issue that I had with that laptop was it's short battery life. Surfing the web and perhaps doing some light Photoshop work at a cafe makes it last AT MOST 2 and a half hours. Does anyone have advice as to how to make it last at least 3 hours or more? - Does HP CoolSense burn battery life?- I will most likely turn off the backlit keyboard and lower the display brightness to about 40%- Do Dropbox and Box Sync consume a lot of battery?- What are the best Power Options settings to squeeze more battery life? Which cable for the add-on HDD for Split X2?

Does anyone have an idea about which HP cable is used for the extra HDD that is installed (by the consumer) in the keyboard dock?
It looks like a DV5 series cable.
I ask, as these cables are only about $5 of $6 dollars, whereas the "kit" (cable and chassis for the HDD) is $50 from HP.

I suggest buying a good 2 TB external hard drive. I have two external hard drives. They work great for storage and backup. Less components in the case provides better airflow.

Add second HDD(SSD HDD). Which model?

I am going to buy HP Pavilion g7-2225sr (C0X05EA) Sparkling Black.
Is there place for second 2,5' HDD?
If no, what other modern model has the space for extra internal HDD?

Unfortunately this model doesn't have an extra HDD bay.
The HP Pavilion dv7t-7000 is the only one that I could find on HP's website in the Pavilion line that includes an extra hard drive bay.

Add 2nd HDD for DV7-4190SD With right cable length

Good day people,
I have a question about adding a second harddrive to my DV7-4190SD notebook.
I searched a long time now but it seems to be hard to find the 100% correct answer.
I want to ad a second hdd to my machine, And according to the service manual from my notebook I have to order replacement part 605415-001.
The description for this part is:
Hard Drive Hardware Kit
(includes left and right bracket rails, connector cable, Mylar coverwith tab, 4 screws, and 4 rubber isolators)
I just want to know if this is the correct part? The cable wich comes with the 1st HDD is short, the cable that must meet the 2nd HDD must be a lot longer.
Does this part from HP (605415-001) comes with two cables? (For the 1st and 2nd HDD? because the bracket for the 1st HDD has the same part number....)
It is also welcome that somebody who had the same problem and has it solved now that he/she pin me in the right direction.

I dont know about the HP parts but I can refer you to another more reasonably priced place to purchase and investigate your situation. I have added a second drive to my DV7 already and bought my kit here.

I want to upgrade my computer.
Here are the numbers:

I have the space for a second hard drive, but it is empty.
No caddy, no connector.
But the Intel Rapid Storage detects an internal port 4 empty.
How to check what is is that port?
I did some research and I found a document on the material content of my computer. It is indicated that a connector on the motherboard exists for a second hard drive, here are some reference contained in the document:
CN1920 2nd HDD SATA interface connector (20-pin)
Is the motherboard of my computer (see reference above) does have the CN1920 connector?

There is a 2nd HDD bay because in the past the Qosmio G50 was released with different hardware parts and supported different hardware specifications and obviously the 2nd HDD bay does not contain the HDD connectors/cable.
The Intel ICH9M South Bridge supports 4 integrated serial ATA Host controllers, so the chipset should be able to handle 4 SATA devices (2x HDDs, 1x ODD, 1x eSATA).
I searched in the internet a little bit and found out that the motherboard supports two controllers/connectors.
The first HDD should be connected to the CN1900 (23pin) SATA connector and the 2nd HDD should be connected to CN1920 (20pin). The ODD is connected to CN1910 (13pin)
However, I think it will not be very easy to upgrade this unit with an 2nd HDD the whole unit must be disassembled and of course you would need compatible parts for such upgrade.

I use a USB display adapter to provide a choice of two extra monitors for my Touchsmart 300. I run a 17" monitor on a VGA cable from the USB display adapter and when I want to watch movies I change to an HDMI cable connected to my 42" Plasma and run that as a second display in the loungeroom. With the HP wireless remote, I can control the video and with the wireless mouse and keyboard I can surf the net on the BIG SCREEN! Cool!

Bought a DV7t with 7200 RPM Hybrid HDD; a) Can I add a 2nd SDD drive or b) 2nd HDD ?

I bought a DV7T QE with a Single 750GB HD. Question:
1) Can a SDD be added, given that HP doesn't give this as an option, yet it should be possible
2) If a 2nd HDD is added (assuming same manufacturer as 750 GB HDD), HP originally offered this configuration and allowed Intel SMart Response mSSD option - Any instruction on how to add 2nd HDD and then turning on the mSSD Intel SRT ?

Hi,
1. Yes, you can add SSD as the second harddrive on your machine,
2. If adding SSD, you better swap it to be your FIRST harddrive and if that was the case then mSSD Intel SRT became useless, no need to have mSSD Intel SRT because I've got REAL SSD.

M93P and use of 2 HDD Controller | add additional SATA Controller

Hello,
Has anyone added a second HDD SATA controller to their ThnikCentre M93/p , my is a mini tower, to add SATA HDD ports to their setup. I have try to add a Marvell 88SE9230 based RAID HDD Controller as a second controller, but was not recognized.

I just added a 2-port PCIe SATA controller, Syba SI-PEX40061, to my M93p. Windows 7 recognized it and automatically installed drivers, and I subsequently installed updated drivers. It's based on Marvell 88SE9120 Chipset. When a HDD is attached, prior to boot, Win 7 hangs. If a HDD is connected after Win 7 has booted, it causes BSOD. Lenovo BIOS is setup for AHCI by default and I set it to allow legacy BIOS support, and the controller has AHCI by default. Still can't get controller to work. HAS ANYONE HAD LUCK WITH AN ADD-ON SATA CONTROLLER?

Help.. Please..Replacing a Spectre 15t hard drive with an ssd

I posed this question a couple of days ago but did not make myself clear enough. I’ll try again…
I purchased a Spectre 15xt touchsmart just before Christmas. I ordered the 128 gig ssd drive upgrade because no larger ssd drive was available and the salesman assured me I could upgrade to a larger drive later. As it turns out, the upgrade to the ssd drive replaced the 32 gig boot ssd with a larger 128 ssd and just eliminated the hard drive.
I have two questions.
If I had purchased the Spectre with the hard drive, instead of chosing the ssd upgrade option, could I have replaced the hard drive with a standard sized ssd drive? If so, I can send the laptop I have back and get one with a hard drive and replace the hard drive with a standard ssd drive (I only have a limited time to do this). I’ve called tech support a few times and get varying answers.
If the only way to increase drive space is by increasing the size of the msata ssd, can I use any brand of msata drive. It comes with a Samsung MAMPC128HBFU. Samsung also makes a 256 gig (MZMPC256HBGJ). Will the larger Samsung drive work? Can I replace it with another brand, say a Crucial m4 256GB ssd (CT256M4SSD3?

Yes that is correct. Any issues with a 3rd party SSD need to be addressed with the manfacturer of the SSD.
What about if replacing the HDD, with the SSD, is responsible for another fault?

Getting a hp mce remote for touchsmart 300-1125

I want to add a remote control to my HP Touchsmart 300-1125 and am thinking to order the 5070-5600 HP remote (random link: http://cgi.ebay.com/HP-COMPAQ-5070-5600-Media-Center-Remote-Control-/330414657906#ht_805wt_911).
I wonder about two things:
1) The IR Receiver *is* built-in, isn't it? (Device Manager lists a functional eHome IR device)
If in doubt, where should I look for the IR receiver sensor on the case?
2) I think the 5070-5600 remote lists as being made for the older IQ series of Touchsmarts. Will it work with the newer 300 series?

All MCE remotes from the past 8 years send out the same codes. There are a few newer HP specific codes, but 95% of the buttons are exactly the same, grab a 5 year old Gateway MCE remote, it'll work just the same as a new HP one!
